Carnegie Libraries in Michigan

From 1883 until 1920 steel magnate Andrew Carnegie underwrote the construction of hundreds of public libraries throughout the United States, including 61in Michigan. This presentation details Carnegie’s life, explains the basic details of his program and includes the stories of several Michigan communities which received Carnegie grants. Approximately one hour. Legendary Locals of Detroit

Inspired by my book of the same name, the talk profiles some of the impactful individuals and groups which shaped the character of Detroit from the late nineteenth century until 2000 including many who had national influence, such as Rosa Parks, Joyce Carol Oates, and Charles Lindbergh.
